Carol Mel Cafe: Tai Seng's hipster eats
A weekday evening and a couple of us popped by Carol Mel Cafe. A stone's throw away from Tai Seng MRT Station, this cozy cafe is a nice place to hang out with a smaller group of friends for a cuppa and affordable dishes.

First up, starters. I liked the french onion soup, which was interestingly topped with melted mozzarella and sharp cheddar cheese and toast. The toast had soaked up the flavours of the french onion soup, which made it delish indeed.

We also tried other interesting dishes like the honey glazed smoked duck carpaccio, pasta and duck confit. Their duck confit was flavourful.

Pasta which had a good bite to it.

We were also treated to lovely meat mains like their streak frite and lamb shank. I highly recommend the juicy and delish lamb shank. The lamb shank came with pasta and to be honest, this is good enough for 2 people to share!
Tender steak, despite looking a little cooked. But definitely tastes like a medium.

Awesome Lamb Shank served with pasta
Finally, dessert time! I have to say that the desserts here pretty much won my vote.

Here's their Signature Waffles, topped with a gelato and a myriad of berries and fruit. This is pretty good! Shall we... dig in?
But wait, let the camera have at it first!
I also loved their pretty presentation of the banana split. It was a definite must-order if you visit as the fried banana was so lovely.

Creme Brulee!
The meal is perfect after ending it with a magic latte!

Urban Decay Review: Naked FLUSHED Palette & Naked Weightless Ultra Definition Liquid Makeup
Naked Skin Weightless Ultra Definition Liquid Makeup (Left) and Naked Flushed Palette (Right)
Recently, Sephora Singapore had a black card sale of up to 20% off! Hence, I grabbed the chance to try these urban decay lovelies out, which I had been wanting to try for some time.

First up, the Flushed Palette. There are in total 3 colours to this palette, I chose 'STREAK'. This gorgeous palette contains a bronzer, highlighter and blush. I like to blend them all together and apply it to reveal a lovely golden sheen on my skin.
On the left, you'll see that there's a pinkish streak on my hand, that's if I use the blush on its own. The slightly golden streak beside it is if I blend in all 3 of them. The sheen is really lovely and my photos kind of didn't do it justice. :(

Next up, the Weightless Ultra Definition Liquid Makeup!
I got mine in shade 03, which fits my yellowish skin tone. This has 24 shades in total! So I'm sure you'll be easily able to find something that suits your skin tone. I liked that this product is as its name described: Weightless. And... paraben free! Woohoo!
Here's how it looks in my hand. It's a thin bottle with 30ml full of product.
Careful of how you pump it, as there's seriously alot of product that comes out from just one pump. I just pump it out and smear it over my face. The result is a slightly yellowish foundation, but that's just because it hasn't oxidised yet. It takes about 30mins to oxidise fully (I did a test on my face). And after it has oxidised, it was so natural looking with medium coverage.
The first pump.
The photo below shows my arm, which is fully covered with just the first pump. If you can see, it shows up slightly more yellowish than the above photo.
After application
I really liked that this product as a matte finish, and is not sticky at all, even after I applied it for a couple of hours! This product is infused with Matrixyl 2000, which is an anti-wrinkle peptide), Litchiderm (for brightening) and green tea (antioxidants), as well as vitamins. The product boasts many nourishing ingredients used in it.

Just do your usual skincare steps and then apply this product. And you're ready to go. Overall, I liked these 2 products and I'm glad I got them! :)

You can purchase these two products from all Sephora outlets or Urban Decay outlets.

Recipe Edition: Kale and Berries Smoothie 'Soup'

Recipe Edition: Kale and Berries Smoothie 'Soup'
It was Labour Day yesterday, and as you know, a long public holiday for us Singaporeans (wheee!). I tend to eat unhealthy whenever it gets to the holidays, and end up regretting that I do, especially when my breakfast is a sinful fried beehoon and/or roti prata! (YUMS, though)

So, this morning, I decided to wake up make myself a smoothie 'soup'. Why soup? Actually, it's a smoothie in a bowl, but the consistency I like it a little more creamy and soupier, since I'm Cantonese. I didn't want it to be too thick as well.

Also, I like to do this in the morning for breakfast, simply because our bodies needs to eat right in the morning. It's good to feed it nutrients and let give it ample time to burn off the sugar intake, throughout the day.

In the case of this smoothie soup, it's the sugar from your berries and banana that is the better kind of sugar to eat and burn away, rather than on-the-shelf sugars that go into your meals.

To be honest, what better sugar than fruit sugar, to fuel your morning right?

- 1 cup of unsweetened soy milk (some prefer to use almond milk, I use soy. Use any milk you like, to be honest.)
- 1.5 cup of chopped kale (or any vegetables you like, like spinach, etc.)
- 1 cup of mixed berries (I used strawberries and blueberries only this time)
- 1/2 Jumbo Banana
- 1 to 2 teaspoons of maple syrup / honey (if you like it sweeter. This is optional. I used 1 teaspoon of maple syrup for mine)

- The remaining half of the jumbo banana
- Blueberries
- Strawberries
- Almonds
- Chia seeds (if you're up for it. Not overly though, I recommend 1-2 teaspoons)

- Put the kale and half the milk into the blender. Blend until your preferred consistency.
- Put in the berries, banana and the maple syrup in the mix. Blend. Don't overly blend it, if you don't want such too smooth a consistency. Add in half the remaining milk.
- It should look slightly thick now, but all blended well.
- Add in the rest of the milk and give it one last blend till slightly frothy.
- Pour out, garnish and enjoy. :)

- Freeze your banana, berries and preferred vegetables (or make sure it is well chilled) before you blend.
- Don't put too much milk / vegetables at a go (at least, I don't like to do that so I can control the consistency later on)
- If you like your soup thicker, add more banana and less milk
My kale bouquet <3
I only used about 2 stalks for 2 bowls of smoothie soup!

This recipe has a stronger kale taste, you have been warned! But I love it because it tastes so healthy and packs a good nutritious punch.

Hope you like this simple recipe, and enjoy a healthy start to the lovely day!
