Awesome grilled meat patties at Songjeong Tteokgalbi (광주 송정떡갈비 1호점)

Located near Gwangju Songjeong Station (광주송정역), a busy KTX railway station in Gwangju, it's a godsend that the tteokgalbi street lies just less than 5 mins walk away. We came here for brunch before catching our train to Seoul.

Hungry? Come here for one of the famous tteokgalbi (grilled short rib meat patties). This is in the list of the best 5 food items of Gwangju.

We visited the most well-known tteokgalbi shop: Songjeong Tteokgalbi (송정떡갈비), with more than 40 years experience and counting. They receive much patronage from the media, celebrities, as seen on the pictures and signature filled walls.

Songjeong specialises (and make one of the best) traditional tteokgalbi (떡갈비), so make sure you stop by for some!

Bones boil in a soup broth for 1hour and 20mins to derive clear and refreshing Galbitang 갈비탕, which will come along with every tteokgalbi order.

The tteokgalbi patty is made by pressing it in between 2 thin grills to get its shape, while the chef carefully and swiftly applies their special sauce on top of it while it cooks above a charcoal fire. The secret to the delicious meat is the sauce, which is made with about 20 natural ingredients like kelp, radish, and green onion and no artificial seasonings.

The result is a really sweet and savoury taste as you munch on it, along with it being really juicy and delicious. This is a definite must-try.

Even their bibimbap (비빔밥) is excellent. The usage between the ingredients and the sauce met with such perfect balance, hence, when mixed, the taste was just so, so good. Loved this one so much I might just hop onto a train just to enjoy this dish again.

Mix the ingredients up and just enjoy, this is one of the best bibimbaps (비빔밥) I have eaten while in Korea.
