If you're a foodie on the hunt for something tasty and unique to try, you absolutely must check out Old World Bak Kut Teh's Fried Porridge.
What exactly is fried porridge, you ask? Well, think of it as a delicious hybrid of fried rice and porridge. It's made with a variety of yummy ingredients and seasonings, and one of their signature dishes is the Mixed Pig Organ Fried Porridge, which is simply amazing!
The fried porridge itself is thick and starchy, and you'll also find their signature Bak Kut Teh on the menu, which can serve around three people. However, just a note that the fried porridge can feel quite oily after a while. In my opinion, the fried porridge dish is best enjoyed by two persons per bowl.
Now, when it comes to pork innards, cleanliness is key. Old World Bak Kut Teh does this well. You can rest assured that the pork intestines are well-cleaned and the meat is tender - a must-try for fans of pork innards. If you prefer something less oily, the Sliced Pork Fried Porridge is also a great option. The pork slices are tender and delicious.
The fried porridge itself is excellent, with a lot of shallots and a very strong wok hei flavor. During my return visit, I tried their signature Bak Kut Teh. And I tried both versions of their bak kut teh but I have to admit, I still prefer the normal version they offer, which is less oily and more traditional.
If you're not a fan of porridge or innards, fear not - Old World Bak Kut Teh has plenty of other delicious options to choose from. For example, the Cheese Seafood Beehoon comes highly recommended by frequent customers. While some say it tastes just like pasta, I'm definitely putting it on my list to try next time!
All in all, this eatery is a gem in the east. Old World Bak Kut Teh is definitely worth checking out!
