PAUL Boulangerie Patisserie

PAUL Boulangerie Patisserie

Recently, I got the chance to check out PAUL, a France-born cafe and bakery.

It was year 1889...
"Originating from a family of agricultural workers in the Artois region of Northern France, Charlemagne Mayot and his wife open a small bakery located in rue de la Mackellerie in Croix, near Lille."

This bakery celebrated its 120th year anniversary in year 2012, and also opens the first store in Singapore during that year! It's been around for 122 years now, wow~!

Now, on to the food, shall we?

PAUL sells many types of super lovely looking desserts and pastries. I was really spoilt for choice!

In the end, we ordered the Millefeuille Fraises ($7.30) and the Tartelette chocolat ($6.40). I also ordered the Cafe Miel ($7.50)!

Waiting for the arrival of the desserts!

Well, well, well. First up, the Millefeuille Fraises. This has got to be one of my favourite desserts!
I loved how the pastry was not too sweet, yet it was held together by a crisp puff pastry and delivers a lovely taste without too much sugar overload.
Its middle is packed with fresh strawberry pastry cream and cut strawberries! Topped with a light apricot glaze, this dessert made it to the list of my must-eat-again list! Simply lovely.

If you do get the chance to visit the cafe, try the Almond Tart! According to my friend, he says that the Almond Tart is really good and gets sold out really quickly. Hence, we weren't able to order it by the time we got there after lunch! *pouts*

The Cafe Miel was also an interesting choice. Served with honey on the side, their coffee tastes light bodied and smooth to drink. I felt that there's a tad too much milk froth for this one, but I did like how they had a light coat of cinnamon on it.
Thick thick milk froth. Too thick for my liking, in fact.
Add in as much honey as you wish, to the level of your desired sweetness. :)

I'm a whimsical chocolate eater. This is definitely for chocolate fans out there, as the pastry case went well with the thick, rich, hardened chocolate cream. For me, it proved to be a little too overpowering! For chocolate lovers, however, you have to try it for its richness. Also, I would suggest you match it with a bitter type coffee, to ease up on the thick sweetness of this dessert.
Sharing it amongst 4 people, but really, it's just nice for 2 people. :)
The chocolate that came with the chocolate tartlet. :)

By the way, I also visited PAUL's website and I must say how I like their website design. What's more, they also put in details of their desserts! Like the amount of carbohydrates, sugars, types of allergens (nuts, etc).

This is a very good and useful information platform which I recommend you visit if you've not tried their desserts, and for those who would like to count their calories!
