BIODERMA Sébium Mat Control and Lotion Review

BIODERMA Sébium Mat Control and Lotion Review

Look what came in the mail today!

It's a sample size of the Bioderma Sebium Mat Control and Lotion!

If some of you don't already know, my skin type is combination skin. Now, let's first talk about the Lotion. I use this after cleansing my face, and after application to my skin, loved how it was non-sticky and moisturising in the right amount (you know how some toners can dry your skin out)

I learnt that this product is also specially formulated for Asian skin and contains a blend of active ingredients that helps balance skin’s pH, reduces excess oil and keeps skin hydrated. Lovely!

After using the lotion, I shook the mat control moisturiser bottle well before squeezing a bit out to try. I read how some people who just squeezed the product out from the bottle can experience a runnier product. But anyway, after shaking it well before use, I didn't experience anything like this.

Because it also acts as a makeup primer, I'm happy that I can save a step! You can either wear this on a bare face (without foundation) or just use this underneath your makeup. When I use it as a makeup primer, I find that it doesn't crease on my face! And like the others who tried this product, mine was a positive experience!

I liked how this moisturiser is light in texture, and absorbs easy for me. Importantly, no sticky feeling because hey, the last thing you want living in a tropical humid climate is a sticky face!

This product is formulated with the 8-hour Mat & Smooth Technology, which claims to produce instant, deep down results and regulates shine with ingredients like zinc and vitamin B6, refines skin texture and tightens pores with keratolytic active ingredients and astringent, and limits the appearance of blemishes.

The Fluidactiv patented complex biologically regulates sebum quality and provides lasting protection against blocked pores.

This product is said to be suitable for people with sensitive to combination to oily skin. It's also paraben-free, hypoallergenic, fragranced, non-comedogenic and dermatologically tested. In fact, even as the Sensibio line of products are formulated for sensitive skin types, it is safe to use on all skin types as well. Sébium is formulated for oily skin types and Hydrabio is formulated for the dry or dehydrated skin.

If you have these problems, this product is probably worth a try for you, as it's targeted for people with these concerns: Acne, Large Pores, Oiliness and Blackheads.

There are 3 factors that affect skin's sebum, which this product helps with:

Factor 1 – Hormones
  • Imbalances and changes in hormonal activity can result in the excess production of sebum
  • Risk of qualitative sebum abnormality
  • Having thicker sebum that has a more difficult time flowing out of the follicle, which increases the risk of clogged pores and pimples
  • prevents damage to skin immune system and preserves antioxidant reserve

Factor 2 – Improper Skincare
  • Using skincare products that are not suitable for your skin can irritat and worse acne-prone and oily skin
  • For example, the use of aggressive cleansing products can lead to skin barrier issues, pH instability and reactional hyperseborrhea, where skin produces even more sebum to compensate for the removal of all the sebum from skin’s surface

Factor 3 – Lifestyle
  • Diet and stress are some factors that can influence the production of sebum
  • For example, a high-glycemic diet (sugar, flour, rice etc) and high stress levels elevate hormones that increase the activity of sebaceous glands, contributing to the formation of acne
Skincare Tips:
  • Be patient and stick with a targeted treatment programme, using products from a dermo-cosmetic range that’s created for oily, blemish prone skin
  • Depending on the person and the type of acne, improvement is generally observed
