Jamie's Italian Singapore Restaurant

It was recently my birthday and my lovely friend treated me to lunch at Jamie's Italian restaurant (by Jamie Oliver)!

The surroundings:

At the table...

First up, we had the baked mushrooms ($12.50) under the Bruschetta and Antipasti section. It was served piping hot from the oven with buffalo mozarella just melted on sliced mushrooms.

Underneath it all, there was a very thin type of bread baked to perfection as it was super crispy! They call this the 'music bread', and I'm thinking because they make sounds when you bite into them? I'm not sure, but this dish was really good.

For my main, I had the 220g RUMP Steak ($20.50). It was served with garlic & parsley butter, rainbow coleslaw and skinny fries.
I had it medium well done, because I just didn't want to see blood. But I would have liked the meat better if it was just cooked medium, and not medium well.
I loved how well the garlic & parsley butter went with the meat and it really gave a nice combined flavour. The rainbow coleslaw tasted fresh and different from those you get at other restaurants because they use natural yoghurt instead of mayonnaise.

Lastly, I LOVED the skinny fries. You have to try it, it is so addictive. I was so full from the main course but I just could not stop munching on it. :)

My friend had the Meatball Pappardelle ($14 / $24). You must be wondering why there's 2 prices. The $14, we learnt, was an appetiser portion, whereas the $24 is the main course portion. My friend, who usually doesn't eat alot, ordered the $24 version. But she couldn't really finish the pasta as it was quite substantial. So if you don't want to eat so much pasta, you may wish to opt for the $14 version.

The beef & pork meatballs, unfortunately, tasted slightly 'frozen'. It didn't feel like it was fresh meatballs but the pasta itself was really good. It was really wiggly and it had reminded me of octopus tentacles. haha!

The entire dish were cooked in tomatoes, garlic, red wine and herby breadcrumbs, which really gave it an interesting texture. The breadcrumbs were served on a spoon and the server told us to mix it up, as much as we want.

I liked that the noodles were really long too. haha, It was an interesting pasta!

As for the drink, I ordered the Apple mojito ($8.50). It was really refreshing - served with muddled lime & sugar with fresh mint, topped with apple juice.

I enjoyed this experience, but felt that the dishes like the Meatball Pappardelle could have been done better! Also, I was a little disappointed at the lack of dessert offerings.

During payment time, they also gave us our receipts in a nice card, which shared products we could purchase, if we want.

Jamie's Italian

Location: 1 HarbourFront Walk, VivoCity, #1 165-167, Singapore 098585
Tel: +65-67335500
Website: Vivocity Branch

Directions: Take the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) to Harbourfront (Purple Line NE1, Orange Line CC29). Vivocity is very big. It is easy to get 'lost' inside this mega mall. I suggest you head towards the Exit B for HarbourFront Centre, instead of Vivocity. Once you exit the station, turn left and you will see Cheers (convenience store). Ignore everything else and walk ALL the way straight. You will pass Macdonalds and Mos Burger along the way. Continue straight. At the next junction, turn left. You will see a mini halal food court - Bagus. Exit through the glass door in between Bagus. You will see Starbucks not far, across the small pathway. Enter the entrance near Starbucks. You'll see Poulet on your left. Jamie's Oliver will be on your right. :)

My Ratings (the higher the score, the better it is!)

RICH Pure Luxury Rejuvenating Argan OIl Elixir

RICH Pure Luxury Rejuvenating Argan OIl Elixir
Today, I'm going to talk about something different.

...Hair oil! Well, specifically the RICH Pure Luxury Rejuvenating Argan Oil Elixir (70ml, SGD$24.90).

If you know me personally, I do have hair issues. Damaged hair issues.

From a young age of 14, when having rebonded hair was hip, I found it hard to embrace my wavy frizz, which made me go to the hairstylist many times for a rebonding session. My record of rebonding sessions in 3-4 years: 10 times. (Who does that? It's crazy, right?)

But I can't fight nature and my hair is eternally damaged.

When I got older, I learnt to embrace my wavy mop and go with the soft, huge curls, popular with female S Korean artistes. :)

Back to the review, I'm just going to cut to the chase and show you the product. (See, I so nice right?)

This product won the 2014 Women's Weekly Hair Awards okay? Don't play play.

First off, the product - Storage: Glass bottle.

Some ingredients:
- Argan Oil
-Linseed Seed oil
- Olive Fruit Oil
- Keratin
- Hyaluronic Acid
- Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice

With so many types of oil used, how not to be nourishing for the hair? haha.

Directions of use:
Apply 3-4 drops into dry or damp hair and work through your hair (massage gently), allowing the product to deeply penetrate into hair. Comb through and style as usual.

Verdict
- Scentless.
- Amount good enough for many months of use.
- Hair feels more nourished after use.
- Affordable pricing
- Glass bottle makes it dangerous for clumsy people like me (if I want to take more, easy to slide off my hands)

I'm not going to judge this time, you be the judge of its efficacy - here are the results. :)

Eclat D’Arpège by Lanvin

Eclat D’Arpège by Lanvin

Created in year 2002, Eclat D’Arpège transparent, magical potion like vial also carries the classic image of Jeanne Lanvin and her daughter Marguerite. Its fruity floral scent is lovely.

Wear it and be enchanted by a spell of aromatic flowers blooming and flowing in the wind around you. This is the dance of Spring.

Top Notes: Lemon Leaves, Lilac
Middle Notes: Wisteria, Green Team Peach Flowers, Red Peony, Chinese Osmanthus
Base Notes: White Cedar, Amber, Sweet Musk

I got this as a set for SGD$126! :) It comes with a lovely matching pouch, Lanvin stickers, a mini 'ME' Eau De Toilette and a portable Eclat D’Arpège in a white mini pouch!

More about 'ME' Eau De Toilette will be shared in another review. :)

I love the little portable version they provided!

Opening the transparent container that contains the magic potion:

Just beware of the way you hold it after opening this! I suggest you throw the container away after opening as it makes it very easy to drop the entire thing and risk breaking the perfume if you make one wrong step! I mean, hold.

    After opening:

Let's sparkle - on perfume cap:

    - Very lovely, attractive scent.
    - Much effort on design
    - Fades too quickly.

    Verdict
I love the scent of this perfume, but I hope that they could just make the scent a little more long lasting. Whiffs of the aroma emits every 5 minutes for the first 20 minutes, then the scent fades away. Unless you put your nose pretty close to your wrists, it's unlikely for you to be able to smell it anymore after a short while.

    Hoshino Coffee

    Hoshino Coffee Plaza Singapura 16
Thank goodness I reached Hoshino Coffee (星乃珈琲店,オフィシャルサイト) about 5.45pm, and shortly after I got seated, a queue started forming!

Dish model displays spread out on the table for those queuing to have a little glimpse of what they're in for:

    Cafe surroundings:

One of my favourite features in a restaurant, bag storage trays!
    Hoshino Coffee Plaza Singapura 03
One of the signatures of this Japanese cafe are their hand-dripped coffees, which are lighter and to me, less acidic in taste.  I ordered a cup of their "Hoshino" Blended Coffee ($5.80), which is their signature coffee.
    Hoshino Coffee Plaza Singapura 06
The coffee beans (premium Arabica beans), selected by the cafe's blend specialist, Master Kanno, were roasted over open fire. It is supposed to give a strong bodied flavour with "pleasant sourness".
To be honest, I did not taste too much sourness, but they were right about it being a pleasant taste. I derived at this conclusion without adding milk and sugar. Just pure black coffee! I loved this coffee for its clean and light taste. It was easy on the palate and smooth to drink.
Next served: the "Omu" Rice, a.k.a the Japanese Omelette Rice. I had the Tomato Cream "Omu" rice with Shrimp & Mozzarella. This was recommended to me by a senior wait staff and I think it's really good.
The mozzarella is of the right amount, such that it doesn't overcome the entire dish. I would have liked it the traditional style though, where the egg wraps over the rice. But the gravy - tomato cream - did not disappoint. It was flavourful. I would also have liked to have a little more ingredients, there were only 2 shrimps and 2 little broccolis.

Finally, the dessert. I was just chatting with someone who was in the queue, who came to Hoshino Coffee many many times, and Little Nice Miss Stranger told me that its Vanilla Souffle is a MUST HAVE. I tried asking the staff for recommendations again (just to be sure) and got the exact same answer.
So there you go, I went for it: The Vanilla Souffle ($10.80)!
It was so fluffy, so light that I could eat two in a row! There were 3 flavours for choice: Custard, Chocolate or Matcha sauce. I'm a green tea person, so I took the matcha flavour.
    Hoshino Coffee Plaza Singapura 09
It was so good. The matcha sauce was just right, and was a good match with the lovely mushy inner of the souffle~! I could taste the egg whites for the inner souffle, and the top of the souffle was just lovely. It was a wonderful recommendation.

What I like about this cafe is that they don't have too many varieties, but their main focus is on doing what they have well. And I appreciate that about an eatery/cafe, because some of them get so fixated on having so much variety that they forget that taste is still the most important thing to deliver. I will definitely come back again to this place. :)
